Newark Airport guide for Long Island travelers
The longest of the three New York airport runs from the Island, and the one where the crossing matters more than the mileage. Here is how we plan it.

Which terminal are you flying from?
Newark Liberty runs three terminals connected by the AirTrain. Terminal A was rebuilt recently and airline assignments shifted with it, so confirm the terminal printed on your boarding pass rather than relying on where an airline used to sit.
- Terminal A
- The newest terminal — American, Delta, JetBlue and several other carriers.
- Terminal B
- A mix of international carriers plus some domestic service.
- Terminal C
- United's main Newark operation, domestic and international.
Where a chauffeured car meets you
Newark directs pre-arranged cars to a designated pickup area for for-hire vehicles, separate from the taxi and rideshare queues. Your chauffeur confirms the exact spot after you clear baggage claim, and customs on international arrivals.
Because Newark's terminals are spread out and connected by AirTrain, telling us your terminal in advance genuinely saves time here. A meet-and-greet inside the terminal is worth considering on international arrivals or when you're traveling with family.
How early to leave
From Long Island, Newark means crossing New York City. That is the whole story of the trip. Whether the route goes over the Verrazzano and the Goethals, through the Midtown Tunnel and the Lincoln, or across the George Washington depends on the hour, and the difference between the best and worst case can be well over an hour.
Because of that spread we build in more margin for EWR than for JFK or LGA — often an extra thirty to forty-five minutes on a weekday departure. Send us the flight number and we'll put the recommended pickup time in writing.
Newark questions we get asked
- Where does a car service pick up at Newark Airport?
- At the designated pickup area for pre-arranged for-hire vehicles at your terminal, not the taxi stand. Your chauffeur confirms the exact door once you have your luggage.
- How early should I leave Long Island for a Newark flight?
- Allow two hours at the terminal for domestic and three for international, then add the drive — which from most of the Island runs well over an hour before traffic. On weekday departures we typically recommend leaving thirty to forty-five minutes earlier than you would for JFK.
- Is Newark worth it from Long Island?
- It can be, when the fare or the nonstop is materially better. The tradeoff is a longer, less predictable drive. We'll tell you honestly what the run looks like at your travel time before you book the flight if you ask early.
- Do tolls and the crossing affect the quote?
- Tolls are accounted for in the quote you receive in writing. There is no negotiating at the curb and no surprise at the end of the trip.
- Can you handle a Newark arrival late at night?
- Yes. Late arrivals are routine, and flight tracking means your chauffeur is there for the actual landing time rather than the scheduled one.
